Life You Want - 004

Braggarts have an inferiority complex

Hey you,

Welcome to the 4rd edition of The Life You Want.

Every edition will challenge what you’ve heard.

Enough yapping, lets jump in.

Inferiority complex ≠ feelings of inferiority

Alright before we begin, I want to make a distinction.

An inferiority complex ≠ feelings of inferiority.

Feelings of inferiority are universal.

Everyone feels them, even the so called “greats” do.

Your favorite athlete does.

Your favorite musician does.

Your favorite entrepreneur does.

The reason?

It is because we are born in a helpless state.

And we do anything to get away from this helpless state.

Feelings of inferiority exist to guide us away from this helpless state.

An inferiority complex on the other hand is from the word “complex.”

Complex implies something being fundamentally wrong with the mind.

Feelings of inferiority turn into an inferiority complex if you bask in those feelings for a long period of time.

So now coming back to braggarts.

How and why do they have an inferiority complex?

You should be thinking:

They have no reason to feel inferior. Infact, they should be feeling superior.

Well why do you think that person is bragging?

It isn’t about if he deserves to or not. That is a different conversation.

I’m just asking why does that person brag?

It is because they want validation.

And why do they want validation?

Because they don’t feel enough.

They feel incomplete.

They validation from the external world to feel whole.

They feel inferior without those compliments.

Voila and there you go.

They have an inferiority complex because bask in those feelings.

They use validation from the external world to get rid of them.

This is the classic playbook of the insecure overachiever.

They overachieve because they have an inferiority complex.

They basked in those feelings for so long that they now need validation.

And the only way they can get that validation is by over delivering, by over achieving.

Action Steps

If you’re a braggart:

Next time you catch yourself bragging.

Ask yourself: “Do I really need that validation? Will those compliments won’t fix that inferiority complex I have?”

You will get over it do not worry mate.

This is coming from someone who used to brag and overachieve day in, day out.

The first step is understanding the truth.

And once you know that, you will automatically get over it.

If you notice someone bragging:

Don’t do anything.

You aren’t here to control their lives.

Don’t save them, they don’t want to be saved,

Just notice the inferior kid in them bragging.

Maybe let them know about this, and let go.
